Doorkey is a journal of considered travel — independent, reader-funded, and quietly opinionated since 2020.

We started Doorkey because the travel internet had become a slot machine of affiliate links and identical lists. We wanted something slower: a single dispatch a week, a print issue every season, and reviews written by people who actually slept in the bed.

Our editors travel anonymously and pay their own way unless we explicitly say otherwise. We don’t run sponsored content. We don’t take press trips. The hotels, airlines, and ships we write about have no idea we’re coming.

Doorkey is small on purpose. Three editors, eleven contributing writers, one print designer, and a quietly devoted reader base. We answer every letter. We argue about lobby lighting. We are based in London and Tokyo, and we file from wherever the room is decent.
